In 1979 Renault bought the AMC brand, which owned Jeep. The new AMC-Jeep-Renault group gives the French manufacturer an access to the American market and the European distribution of the Jeep models. If in 1987 this new entity is bought by Chrysler, Renault continues to distribute Jeep cars in Europe, including the famous Cherokee XJ!
